The water to be purified is pushed by pressure against the semipermeable membrane; in this way, part of it manages to pass through the membrane’s pores (osmotised water), whilst the remainder of the water (waste water with a high concentration of salts) is directed to the drain.
Since the diameter of the membrane’s pores is less than 0.0001 microns, only the water molecule and a certain quantity of mineral salts (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, etc.) are able to pass through the pore.
